Add to Cart Add to Lightbox Downloadcuttle141: This Broadclub Cuttlefish (Sepia latimanus) was a bit wary of the photographer, raising its center arms in a typical defensive gesture. The large size of this subject combined with limited visibility would have required shooting from too far away for a side view. However, by shooting face-on at the 70mm focal length and orienting the shot vertically, I was able to fill the frame with an interesting composition. This approach also limited lens-to-subject distance to a couple feet, minimizing the degrading effects of the poor visibility. Indonesia, Sulawesi Sea, North Sulawesi, Lembeh Straits. Nikon F100 in Seacam housing, Nikkor 70-180mm Macro Zoom lens, twin Ikelite 200 strobes, Ultra Light arms, Fujichrome Velvia 50 film. f-11, 1/60 sec.
